Other
Services
Manhattan CryoBank offers additional services such
as referrals (or arrangements) for artificial insemination and ultrasounds
to monitor ovulation.
Artificial
Insemination
Artificial insemination is used as an alternative method
of achieving pregnancy. This procedure is commonly performed when
using donor sperm or when there are male or female infertility factors.
Artificial insemination can help you conceive if your partner has
a low sperm count or poor sperm motility and as a result, his sperm
cannot make the long journey to the egg.
The insemination procedure involves injecting prepared sperm into
the female reproductive tract through the vagina. This procedure
is performed by a physician, a skilled registered nurse, or other
specialists with special training and experience in the field of
fertility treatment.
Manhattan CryoBank can provide two types of sperm preparation for
artificial insemination depending on your physician's instructions:
• Intracervical Insemination (ICI) - depositing
of sperm into the cervical opening.
• Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) - depositing of sperm into
the uterus.
For IUI, sperm must be specifically prepared or "washed"
to prevent possible complications.
In both cases, inseminations are
performed at the time of, or prior to, ovulation. Ovulation may
be determined by monitoring the menstrual cycle, measuring the basal
body temperature, evaluating the quality of cervical mucus, using
ovulation predictor kits and/or gynecological sonograms.
The insemination procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes and is usually
performed once or twice a month until pregnancy is achieved.
Doctor Referral is required to perform artificial
insemination.
Follicular scanning to monitor
ovulation (Ultrasound)
The ultrasound is used to monitor the size and number of
follicles produced in the ovary and allows the doctor to determine
more accurately when the egg matures and when you ovulate. The length
of the follicular ultrasound procedure is approximately 15 to 20
minutes. We will forward the results to your physician’s office,
who may then recommend a follow-up ultrasound.
Doctor Referral is required to perform follicular
ultrasound.
