Testicular
Tissue Cryopreservation (freezing)
At Manhattan CryoBank we cryopreserve
and store testicular sperm and testicular tissue to provide our
clients the option to father a child at some point in the future.
What is the benefit of Cryopreserving
Testicular Sperm or Testicular Tissue?
When a man’s sperm cannot move through his genital tract because
of blockage or inability to ejaculate, it is possible to surgically
remove the sperm from the epididymis or testicular tissue. Testicular
or Epididymal Sperm Extraction allows sperm to be harvested directly
from the testes or epididymis. It is an option for patients where
ejaculation is impossible or when little or no living or motile
sperm can be recovered from their ejaculate.
This procedure is usually performed by an urologist
to enable the man to father a child using assisted reproductive
techniques (ART) such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Sperm extraction
(when performed using the appropriate technique) is usually a successful
procedure that allows men who produce very few sperm, or are unable
to ejaculate sperm naturally, to conceive a child of their own.
Are blood tests needed to
screen for infectious diseases?
Current New York State Department of Health guidelines require
screening for directed (designated) sperm donors. The blood tests
include but are not limited to:
• HIV 1/2
• Hepatitis C virus
• Hepatitis B virus
• HTLV I-II
• Syphilis
• Chlamydia / Gonnorhea
• CMV IgG/IgM
The above blood tests must be obtained from directed
donors before or on the first appointment. If blood tests are completed
at a different location, please ensure the results are sent to us
no later than 2 weeks after your first freezing date.
